Welcome to the divine worth podcast where we are letting go of our self doubt, anxiety, fear and limiting beliefs so that we can step into the divine roles that God has for us. I am your host life coach, Karen Papin, and together we are embracing our divine worth and potential.
Welcome to the divine worth podcast today. It’s just me, a solo episode. And I gotta tell you, I have really been enjoying doing these podcast guests interviews. It has just been amazing to get to know such amazing, yes, I’m using that word again, amazing women, because they are just so insightful and Also people that we can really just relate to.
And as we really try to get to know one another, that we can find common ground, in the midst of whatever differences we might [00:01:00] have, and we can learn from and grow from. Experiencing relationships with other people and it’s a very beautiful thing and part of God’s plan is that we are really not meant to do things alone.
We are meant to connect with other people and. To strengthen relationships with others and to allow God’s love to shine through us as we reach out to others and connect with them. At one point.
In my life, I was like, I just want to have more of these conversations about divine worth. And I just want to connect more with people who I can learn from and I can grow from and I can feel God’s love through. And I had the thought, Oh, I should get a podcast. Hmm. No. Yeah. Yeah. I’ll do that at some point.
You know, I’ll, I’ll do that at some point. And I kind of just kept putting it off and putting it off. And [00:02:00] so it’s very interesting to me that finally, when I stopped and I really prayed and heavenly father, what is thy will, what is it that you want me to do? And very clearly, once again, it was the podcast and I was like, okay, well, I’m going to do the podcast.
And within a month I had my first episode out and I was ready to go and had set it up so that I would do some solo episodes. And then I would also mostly have guests on and I’ve realized looking back that the Lord did answer my prayer. It just wasn’t necessarily in the way that I had expected and so here I’m having these amazing, wonderful conversations that I really longed for.
And because I followed that prompting to start a podcast [00:03:00] the Lord blessed me with what I was really seeking. And so bringing it back to our topic today, I want to share with you one of the divine worth scriptures that I have in my divine worth scripture study journal, and it is found in doctrine covenant section nine.
And it’s verse 8. It says, But behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind, then you must ask me, if it be right. And if it is right, I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you. Therefore, you shall feel that it is right. Now, why in the world? Is this the divine worth scripture? Well, one of the things that I have found as I’ve been doing this podcast is there’s a question that I ask each of my guests and it is what is one small and simple thing that people listening can do to embrace their divine worth and there’s an answer that [00:04:00] has been repeated, not just once or twice, but multiple, multiple times. And that is ask God. And it really is a powerful experience when you sit down with pure intent and ask Heavenly Father for an answer and you receive his warmth and his love and his guidance.
And so it’s no wonder that so many people have just invited us. To ask of God and
how he feels about us individually. Sometimes though, those answers don’t come in the way that we expect or that we hope or right when we want them to. And that’s why I feel that this scripture is so important in relation to divine worth, and I’m going to actually go back to a couple of verses before. This is a revelation that Joseph Smith received to give to Oliver [00:05:00] Cowdery, who was acting as a scribe when Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon.
And Oliver wanted to have that opportunity to translate the Book of Mormon as well, and yet was struggling with it. And so this is what the Lord says to Oliver Cowdery. He says, do not murmur, my son, for it is wisdom in me that I have dealt with you. After this matter, so first off, he’s saying, let’s not complain.
And he calls him my son. So there’s this beautiful reminder that, Oh, we are children of God. He loves us. And then the Lord tells him that there’s a reason. There’s a reason why it didn’t just come right away. In verse seven, it says, behold, you have not understood. Ye have supposed that I would give it unto you when you took no thoughts, if it was to ask me.
And so here, there wasn’t necessarily this. Preparation to be able to lead him to being able to do the [00:06:00] translation. It was, I’m asking, so I expect it to come. And. Continuing on in verse eight, but behold, I say unto you that you must study it out in your mind. Then you must ask me if it’d be right. And if it is right, I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you.
Therefore you shall feel that it is right. So here, the Lord is giving us a pattern, really, for seeking truth and for receiving answers from Him. When we are struggling to be able to see our worth and praying and asking the Lord, Hey, please help me to see what you see in me. Help me to know, is this thy will that I move forward in this?
You know, do you really love me when we are asking those kinds of questions? Sometimes it takes a little bit of prep work on our part. Sometimes we need to study it out and we need to ponder [00:07:00] his words and then turn to him again and ask again. And then after that, allow ourselves to feel his love.
Opening our heart up to receive revelation from him.
Whether you’ve received an answer on how the Lord feels about you, or you are someone who is struggling to receive it, studying about your divine identity and worth can be just what you need.
So let’s break down this process of seeking truth that the scripture gives us. First is study it out in your mind. Now, why? Is this important? There are a few things that stand out to me as being important.
First is That we are opening ourselves up to receive the answers we seek and connecting with God. In Mark chapter 4 verse 39, [00:08:00] there’s an experience that Christ has where he is sleeping on the boat, on a boat and a storm comes and his disciples wake him up and they’re like, don’t you care about us?
There’s a storm going on. We’re going to die if, if you don’t do something and Christ gets up and he says, peace. Be still
in the chaos of our own thoughts, in the chaos of the thoughts of other people and labels and judgments that other people put on us and that we put on ourselves. Sometimes it can feel like that storm and we’re crying out to the Lord, carest thou not that we perish and the Lord tells us peace, be still as we study out in our minds.
As we turn to the scriptures and ponder their words, we [00:09:00] can feel. God’s peace.
And when we’re ready to receive it, the Lord lets us know the answers. Another reason why studying is so important is we connect with our agency. We are showing through our choices to study and take action on what we learn that we sincerely want to know.
In some ways, it actually builds that desire within us to know even more.
Another reason why it’s important. It’s because it is preparation to receive. The Lord reveals things to us when we are ready to receive them and. There’s beauty in that he wants us to learn how to study. He wants us to learn how to put forth the work, to be able to see his love in our life. Because really he has given us that agency [00:10:00] and we get to choose if we’re going to open our minds up to allow his love and see it in our lives.
He respects us and he honors that agency. And he also wants us to learn and grow and become more like him. And in order to do that, we need to put in the effort. And study and search the scriptures and feast upon them and apply them
when we do then ask if it is right, the things that we learned in our study will come back to us accompanied by the spirit witnessing its truth.
So how do we know what to study? Elder John C. Pingree juniors talk eternal truth and the October 23 general conference talks about two. questions to ask ourselves when we hear different concepts to determine if it’s truth or not. The first is the concept taught [00:11:00] consistently in the scriptures and by the living prophets?
Okay, so we’re seeking it, we’re studying it out. The second question is, is the concept confirmed by the witness of the Holy Ghost? Which kind of takes us to the next step of the process of seeking truth and understanding God’s love for us. And our own divine worth. And that is to ask if it’d be right.
And really, I feel like this is a constant process of ask, study, feel, ask, study, feel, and ask more and feel again. So really it’s kind of, asking is part of the process throughout the whole way. Like it’s not necessarily the second step. It’s also the first step. And, So we ask, we study, we ask again, and we take time to feel.
And so, do not forget this step. God wants to [00:12:00] hear from us. He wants us to converse with Him. And prayer is the way that we are able to converse with Him. Through prayer, and through that, intentional scripture study that we have
so often I’ll like dive right into working or studying something without really taking that time to ask God, like the direction I should go or what I should be gaining from that personal study. And I may still feel the spirit guiding me. However, it becomes so much clearer and so much more powerful when I stop.
And then I first asked Heavenly Father for His guidance and for His help in opening my mind to be able to receive that guidance from Him. And so I feel like with asking if it’d be right, this is something
that we’re doing all along the way. We’re seeking his guidance, we’re, we’re praying, we’re asking for his guidance. And then after we’ve done the study, we can [00:13:00] take time to specifically ask, how do you feel about me? What is my worth?
What is my potential? What is the direction you want me to go?
And so throughout the process, we’re checking in with him to see if I’m on the right, if we’re on the right track, and this is where he wants us to be searching, asking realigns us with God’s will. In Isaiah 55 verse 8 he says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
So that’s just a reminder that sometimes we can get so caught up in our own thoughts and that we fail to miss what Heavenly Father wants us to get out of all of it. And so asking, saying a prayer helps us realign ourselves with God’s will. In Proverbs three, five through six.
He also says, trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not unto thine [00:14:00] own understanding and all the ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. It’s a beautiful promise that comes as we put our trust in him and. Once again, lean not into our own understanding.
We are aligning our will with the Lord’s. And then the third thing about the scripture that it teaches us about seeking truth is to feel that it is right. In Psalm 4610, it says,
be still and know that I am God. If we don’t stop to pay attention to how we are feeling, then it’s a lot harder to know that we are feeling and what we are feeling.
Allow yourself to feel
God loves you. And sometimes your brain might reject that thought and think, Oh, well, I know he loves my kids. I know he loves that sister [00:15:00] over there. I know he loves so and so here and there.
We don’t extend that same love to ourselves. We don’t allow ourselves to feel it. So what holds you back from allowing yourself to feel God’s love?
What is holding you back from allowing yourself to see what God sees in you? What are the thoughts and living beliefs that are keeping you from seeing that?
Do the work to turn them around. And yes, your brain might reject the thought at first, the thought that you’ve turned around at first.
Sometimes change can be hard, and accepting new thoughts can be hard. Remind that part of yourself that wants to reject that thought, that new [00:16:00] thought, that I am of worth, I am a daughter of God, I am known and seen and loved by a loving family father.
Allow yourself to
gently acknowledge that part that is struggling to believe that,
and let it know that accepting this love, and accepting that you are of worth, will open you up to be able to better love. And serve others
to be a better, a greater light unto the world
and more loving influence to those who you care deeply about.
So this whole study it out, ask and feel actually sounds a lot like the law of creation, which is something that I teach a lot to my clients. Which is. See, say, feel, [00:17:00] do the first part is the C that is the studying out and getting clear on what it is that Heavenly Father sees in you, what are his words to you, what are the words of the scriptures that you can then apply to yourself and getting more clear on that vision, that’s the C and then say, you’re asking Heavenly Father, Hey, is this How you feel about me.
I am of worth. The atonement is for me. I am a daughter of God. Those are all things that you can say to yourself, and then you feel. You allow yourselves to feel His love.
So take a moment and think about how you have already seen this process of seeking truth, of studying, and asking, and feeling in your own life. And when you find yourself with [00:18:00] feelings of inadequacy, or fear, or self doubt, Study scriptures on your divine worth or on fear and faith or on weaknesses being made strong.
Intentionally study and pray sincerely. Sincerely and with real intent.
And allow yourself to be able to feel that feeling of peace and confidence and love.
