Karen Papin: [00:00:00]

Welcome to the Divine Worth Podcast, where we are letting go of our self-doubt, anxiety, fear, limiting beliefs, so that we can step into the divine roles that God has for us. I am your host life coach, Karen Papin, and together we are embracing our divine worth and potential.

Welcome to this week’s episode of the Divine Worth Podcast. Today I wanna share with you the process that I go through that helps you really feel to let go of that fear that I. Experience when it is that I feel like, oh, the Lord is calling me to do something, right? And so this is the faith method that I use to be able to go from fear to faith.

And, if you’ve been listening to my podcast for a while, then you know that I’m someone who really struggled with me, able to speak as a child and anxiety has really been something that I have felt a lot throughout my life. And yet the Lord has helped me to feel, to process those emotions of fear and be, to release them in order to be outside my comfort zone and do those things that, that he is asking me to do. And sometimes I can go through this process really quick [00:01:00] and sometimes it takes nurturing that seed of faith before I actually start to take those steps. But the process is still the same and it does still work.

So I want to share that with you.

So if you are someone who loves God and wants to put their faith and trust in him and yet this fear keeps rising, in those moments where it’s time for you to take action, or if you feel called to something more and

you’re feeling stuck in that doubt. Maybe you’re feeling pressure to be perfect or you’re afraid of failing. These are all things that, I’m very familiar with that I understand and that I know that as we put our faith and trust in the Lord and we can. Overcome. And I also know that God doesn’t expect us to live without fear.

However, he does invite us to walk with him through it there’s so [00:02:00] many times throughout the scriptures that we see or read the words, fear not, and I see those as little reminders to refocus our attention on the Lord because when we are focused on him, then the faith comes.

That is when we are able to make those small steps of faith forward. Another thing that I find really interesting about those times when the Lord says fear not, is that he is saying it to people who. Who we look back on and we see they are faithful. Like how many times did he tell his disciples fear not, or ye of little faith, right?

He is telling these people that we see as amazing examples of faith to fear not and to move forward and have more faith and [00:03:00] in my opinion. I imagine it was done with a lot of great love for them. And so sometimes we can kind of beat ourselves up and think, oh, I just don’t have enough faith. Or if I just had more faith, then I’d be able to do this or start telling ourselves I shouldn’t feel fear.

really though, when we look at the scriptures, they are full of people who were afraid. Yet the Lord reminded them

fear not. I have overcome and you can too. And so really to me, it’s not about experiencing fear, it’s about working through our fear and refocusing on the Lord, because when we do that, then we see that we really are capable of overcoming those fears and those doubts and all those things that are holding, that are holding us back.

[00:04:00] So if you are someone who is afraid and you start beating yourself up about having this fear. See it more as an indication that, oh, there’s something going on here. I am about to step outside my comfort zone. It’s not a sign of weakness. It’s actually an invitation to look deeper and look to God.

And having this perspective actually helps us to stop beating ourselves up about having fear in the first place and gets us to get more curious about where that might be coming from, and then it invites us to be able to grow closer to the Lord.

So one thing that I am. Have been feeling some anxiety around lately is that I am doing the Divine Worst Summit and I’m in the prep work prepping stages right now [00:05:00] for it. It’s something that will won’t be happening until October, but right now is the time for me to start inviting people to be the speakers and doing some of the, all the background stuff that goes into putting something like this on. And so I’m in the process of preparing for that and there are times where that fear comes in and for me, when I feel fear, a lot of times it actually starts to hold me back and I start to not wanna take those steps forward that I need to take.

So that’s some of the things that, that’s going on within me that’s causing that fear and anxiety and that overwhelm. Right?

So we’re gonna use the faith framework that I use for going from fear to faith. Okay, this framework isn’t about pushing through fear. It’s actually about partnering with God to walk through the process with grace and love and power. So the first part of this faith [00:06:00] framework, and it is Faith as an acronym, so it’s F-A-I-T-H

and the first part F is find the root. Figure out why you are wanting to do this.

What is this desire coming from? How can you benefit from having this in your life? What are the blessings that will come as you put your faith and trust in the Lord and start to act upon these promptings that you’re feeling. Why is it important for you to follow the promptings that the Lord is giving you?

Focus on your why in those times where we really struggle where self-doubt is just really coming on us. What finding our why can do is it can help us to refocus on the Lord and it helps us to focus on [00:07:00] others and that can help us to start to pull ourselves out of this, oh, I’m feeling this way. I’m just feeling so much fear, and just like ruminating through some of those thoughts that are pulling us down and so.

Find a deeper root, a deeper reason why it’s important for you to follow those promptings from the Lord,

and maybe that prompting that reason is just that because I want the Lord to trust me. I want him to know that I love him. And

I am willing to do what he asks me. Sometimes that is your why, and so if that’s your why, that’s awesome, that’s great, and you can even go further and start listing all the blessings that can come from you taking action on those divine promptings that the Lord is giving you. The second thing is to.[00:08:00]

Align with your divine identity. So F is find the root A is aligned with your divine identity.

When Peter is walking on the water, as long as he keeps his focus on the Lord, he is walking on the water. Is when he loses that focus he takes the eyes off of the Lord and starts to see the wind and those waves. That is when he sinks.

When we align ourselves with our divine identity, we are reminding us we are not alone here. That we are of worth as we are now, and that the Lord has a greater vision of what we can accomplish. I’ve been reading a book called The Divine Center by Stephen r Covey lately, and one of the things that he talks about at the beginning of his book, he talks about [00:09:00] perception and he gives this example of how there’s this speech that is being given, and you have an American who doesn’t speak French over here, and then you have a Frenchman and the speech is being broadcast in French. And here they’re getting the exact same information yet their perceptions of the speech are different.

One can understand and one struggles because they do not understand. I love that example of perception because that is kind of how things are with life. Like our heavenly father is up there, and he has this much greater vision of what we can and cannot do. And so if we put our faith and trust in him, then he start, we start to be able to see that vision and our understanding becomes [00:10:00] more clear.

Whereas if we’re not putting our faith and trust in him, then it’s a lot more difficult to understand our place here in this world. Like our understanding is limited because we’re not speaking the same language, right? Because we do not have the same vision as our Heavenly father has.

So as we remember who we are, that we are children of God, as it says in Romans eight 16, the spirit itself bear with witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. And in Psalm 1 39 14, it says, I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are thy works and that my soul knoweth right.

Well, right. We are wonderfully and marvelous. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, which means we were made with reverence and what all [00:11:00] and when we understand that that is how the Lord views us. Then that can help us to have the confidence that we need to take those small steps of faith for in trusting in him and in doing those things that he is asking of us.

So find the root, align with your divine identity. And there’s another part of this when we embrace our divine identity. Another amazing thing happens is we can also embrace our agency more because we are now getting a clearer view of who we are and what we are capable of and then we can embrace best gift of agency that we have been given, and we can choose what thoughts we are going to listen to. You are not a victim to your thoughts and your emotions you are an agent. [00:12:00] In second Nephi 2 27, it says, wherefore, men are free according to the flesh and all things are given them, which are expedient unto man, and they’re free to choose liberty and eternal life through the great mediator of all men or to choose captivity and death.

Right there we are being reminded that is given to us that we can choose. We can choose freedom through the savior or we can choose captivity and allow that fear and that doubt to overcome us and keep us stuck, or we can choose to turn own Lord to allow that faith and his grace and his love to help us to be held to overcome.

There’s a book called The Places That Scare You that’s by a Buddhist monk whose name is Pema Chodron. And in it she asks us, do I prefer to grow up and relate to life directly, or [00:13:00] do I choose to live and die in fear? What a thought provoking question that is. Are you going to choose to live in fear?

Are you going to choose to live a life of faith?

So F in our faith framework F is find the root. And what is your why? Why is it important that you have faith? Why is it important that you overcome the fear? Second, A, align with your divine identity. Third is identify limiting beliefs and replace them.

This is where we get curious

This divine identity and love that. God has for us, we can now pay attention to what it is that we’re feeling, knowing that the Lord is with us. And so we can dive into this fear [00:14:00] and identify, okay, where is this fear coming from?

Asking those really good questions that can help us gain a greater understanding of what’s going on within us so that we can. Gain more clarity on what to do about it, right? And so allow yourself to feel what you’re feeling. Is it fear? Is it self-doubt? Is it overwhelm? Allow yourself to feel that and to name it.

And then get curious about why it’s there. And as we do this from this place of love and not shame, but this place of love that our Heavenly Father has for us, we can uncover the truth of what’s going on and the truth of what he sees in us as well. John 8 32 says, and he shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I think that is a great scripture to kind of pull [00:15:00] in, when it comes to gaining a better understanding of, wow, I’m feeling fear here. Why is it that I’m so afraid? And then, another great scripture, second Corinthians 10. Verses three through five, it says, for though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh for the weapons of our warfare.

Are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. What I love about that scripture is it reminds us that it is not a physical war that we have going on here, in.

Regards to our spirituality. It is something that is done within our thoughts. Like we have the ability to overcome our, the thoughts that are holding us [00:16:00] back and we can pull down those thoughts that are really hard, that are really keeping us from moving forward. bring them down, into the point that God helps us to overcome them. Mosiah four 30 also talks about the importance of our thoughts. But this much I can tell you that if you do not watch yourselves and your thoughts and your words, and your des and observe the commandments of God and continue in the faith of what you have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even until the end of your lives, you must perish.

And now, oh man, remember and perish not.

So once again, we’re watching ourselves, we’re watching our thoughts and our words and our deeds and as we do so, we’re getting clearer on those limiting beliefs that are keeping us from doing what those word wants us to do. So in relation to the fear [00:17:00] that I am feeling. As I prepare for the Divine worth Summit, I am afraid to put myself out there afraid that I am gonna fail.

Like what if no one signs up for it? Right? I’m afraid of reaching out to speakers, and, being rejected in that way. And so I have these fears and self-doubt. Coming because of this Divine worth Summit, and yet if I remind myself, okay, let’s identify those, those limiting beliefs, what are they? Well, I have this limiting belief that I,

I can’t pull it off. I have this limiting belief that I won’t be able to get speakers, which. When I really stopped to think about it, it’s like I’ve already had people reach out to me saying that they wanna be a part of the [00:18:00] summit.

And I also have people reaching out to me saying that they want to participate in the summit in as people who are listening to those speakers. So I already have interest there. So what is it that I would rather think than these limiting beliefs that are keeping me and holding me back? Well, what I am telling myself, or I’m reminding myself of is that I am doing this because the Lord asked me to.

And even if I’m the only one who gets something out of it, it is worth it. I am doing this because I know that these women are of worth, I know that they have a great plan and purpose, and that’s kind of going back to my why, right To that first one. Where first one, first step in [00:19:00] finding the root. I am. In this third step, I’m identifying those living beliefs, and then I’m replacing it with that why?

Helping myself to see and to intentionally choose the thoughts that I wanna have. And from there, that fear starts to go away. And I start to actually get excited and being like, oh, I wanna go work on it now. Right? I wanna go and take action, which takes us to our next step, which is trust god and take action.

You do not have to have it all figured out while I am talking about getting clear on the thoughts that you’re having, I am not saying that you have to have it all figured out to be able to move forward. Maybe you don’t completely understand all the reasons why you are feeling fear, and that’s okay.

That is okay.

You can still move forward. And when [00:20:00] that knowledge of, oh wait, actually is this, that’s holding me back, comes. Then you can work through it, go through this process, get clear on what that is and then what is a thought or a belief that you want to embrace instead that’s gonna move you towards the direction that you wanna go.

Faith is built through the small spirit led steps of faith. Okay? I, I call ’em faith steps. In Alma 37 verse six, it says, by small and simple things are great things brought to pass, start taking those small and simple steps because as you do so, you’ll start to show yourself that, Hey, yes, maybe I’ve experienced the fear, but this is something greater.

And I’m gonna put my faith and trust in the word. I’m gonna take a step forward. And then as you do that, you celebrate it and move [00:21:00] forward. Okay, which takes us on to h hold onto progress with hope. Sometimes our progress does seem invisible. Sometimes we do not really realize that impact that we’re having, whether on others or even ourselves. Sometimes we just do not see that we took that step of faith forward, but God sees it. And so taking time when you do recognize that, oh, hey, I sent an in invite out for a speaker today.

Celebrate it. Oh, hey, I shared a scripture with on my social media today. Celebrate it. Okay. I, I called up a friend today to just say, Hey, hope you’re doing well. Okay. Celebrate it each a little step of faith. Oh, one, one time , I made a goal of. [00:22:00] Making eye contact and smiling at the at people when I would do kindergarten, drop off and pick up, and that helped me to feel, that was really hard for me because I was opening myself up to connecting with others, and yet when I did it, I felt more connected with others.

And it was a beautiful experience because I started to felt like I knew them and they started to feel like they knew me. And we may not have even known each other’s names, but we began to have conversations together and, and it just started from being open to doing something as small as making eye contact.

So celebrate each of those small little things that you are doing to step outside your comfort zone. I will start to help you to build that faith in yourself.

So I’m gonna ask you a few questions. I [00:23:00] want to encourage you to ask yourself. What fear keeps surfacing for you lately? What deeper belief or story might you be telling yourself and what question could I ask God that would help me to see this differently?

And if this faith framework resonated with you and you’d like to go deeper with guidance in it, I’d love to invite you to My Fear to Faith program. You can find that karenpapin.com/feartofaithprogram and, in this program, we go through this faith process tailoring it specifically to you.

I hope you know that if you are experiencing fear that it does not mean you are a failure. It is just an indicator letting you know that you’re about to step outside your [00:24:00] comfort zone

or that you’re going through something hard.

And as you focus. On Lord,

even fear can become a sacred ground of growth.

That fear can turn you towards the Lord, which will then help you to learn, grow, and see miracles in your life.

Until next time, I hope you know that you are loved, that you have a purpose, and that only you can make the difference in this world that God is calling you to make. See you next time on the Divine Worth Podcast
